Sylvia Rivera Law Project

Survivor Project

Survivor Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of intersex and trans survivors of domestic and sexual violence through caring action, education and expanding access to resources and to opportunities for action.  Though they are in Portland, OR and do not provide direct services, they offer referals nation-wide.  The Survivor Project has conducted extensive research and materials related to intersex and trans survivors, all available on their website.

National Center for Lesbian Rights

National legal organization committed to advancing the civil and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their families through litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education.  NCLR has a Legal Information Helpline that provides basic information about laws that affect LGBT people, including family law, and about resources available for people who are facing discrimination or other civil rights issues.  Check out their website for more information.

Washington Empowered Against Violence (WEAVE)

WEAVE works closely with LGBTQ survivors of relationship violence and abuse, providing an innovative range of legal and counseling services that leads survivors to utilize their inner and community resources, achieve safety for themselves and their children and live empowered lives.

WEAVE’s LGBTQ Legal Program provides free assistance to LGBTQ survivors seeking civil protection orders, related family law (custody, child support, and divorce) and immigration remedies.

WEAVE hosts 3 weekly walk-in legal clinics that provide free legal advice on Tues, Weds, and Thurs with LGBTQ focus on Weds nights. Click here for hours and locations.
